Keyword research sounds technical, but the idea is simple. You’re finding out what people type into Google when they need something your business offers. At Growthroo Digital, we use it to help businesses reach the right people, instead of chasing big search numbers that never turn into customers.
It’s the process of finding the words and phrases your potential customers use when they search online.
Someone who needs SEO help might type “SEO services,” “SEO agency near me” or “SEO services for small business.” Three searches, three slightly different needs. Each one tells you something about the person behind it.
Getting visitors is good. Getting the right visitors is far better. The right keywords can help you:
That’s why keyword research should never be only about search volume. A big number looks impressive, but it doesn’t mean much if the people searching aren’t looking for you.

Put yourself in their shoes. What would they type into Google if they needed your service?
If you offer digital marketing, your first ideas might be SEO services, Google Ads, content marketing and lead generation. Write them all down, even the obvious ones. You can sort them out later.
Then ask a simple question: what does this person actually want?
Someone searching “what is SEO” is probably still learning. Someone searching “SEO agency for my business” may be ready to hire. You’d write very different pages for those two people, and getting that wrong is a common reason content doesn’t perform.
Specific searches are often more useful than broad ones. “SEO” on its own could mean anything. “Local SEO services for small businesses” tells you exactly what the person is after.
Longer phrases usually get fewer searches, but the people typing them tend to be much closer to what you offer.
You don’t need to repeat your keyword ten times in every paragraph. Write for people first. Use the keyword in your title, your introduction, a heading or two and the content, wherever it fits naturally.
If it sounds forced when you read it aloud, it probably is. Good SEO shouldn’t feel like it was written for a robot.
Good keyword research shows you what your audience wants before you write a single word. Target the right searches, give people genuinely useful information and you’re far more likely to attract visitors who can turn into customers.
At Growthroo Digital, we focus on SEO strategies that go beyond rankings. The aim is to bring the right people to your website and help your business grow.
